In the last blog post, I asked the question, “Can we sing songs of love to Allah?” As I noted there, I know that singing is not a traditional part of worship in historic Islam but that it is a vital element of worship for most Christians through the centuries.
In this post, I ask what some might consider an even stranger question yet:
“Does Allah sing songs of love to us?”
Are there songs in Paradise that He composes as He thinks of people here who love Him, trust Him, and live for Him?
Think about it. That would be amazing, wouldn’t it? For God in all His perfections – God who needs no one – to think about you or me and sing a song of love about us. Even. . .to us.
There was an obscure prophet named Zephaniah who lived 600 years before Jesus – over 2,600 years ago.
Listen to his incredible words (Zephaniah 3:17):
“The Lord your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.”
This is the God I love. This is the God I believe in.
A God who sings to me.
What is your image of God? How do you see Him, that is, how do you see His character? The only portrait of Him that is true is the one that He Himself has painted (in words) like those given through His prophet Zephaniah.
I hunger to know this God more.
I long to hear Him sing to me.
Do you?
I don’t find singing morally wrong in anyway what so ever, in fact it can be a stress reliever and has many health benefits (Google it). However, I personally do not believe that God sings because I find that its not proper to do so, its kind of lowering God to a human level/ Singing is a human attribute and giving this attribute to God means giving him human attributes and that is not proper, I feel its an insult to God because we humans are sinners no matter what degree of sanity we claim and how many people consider us saints. And its because humans can never be perfect nor complete…perfection is a Godly attribute.
Hussain–good to hear from you and thanks so much for your welcomed input!
I agree wholeheartedly with several of your points. Notably:
1. We humans are sinners – no question about that!
2. God is perfect – no disagreement there either!
But I disagree that singing lowers God to a human level in an improper way.
God actually does quite a few things that we do:
He thinks, He speaks, He decides, He acts, He feels.
But I don’t see that doing any of these things lowers him to a human level in an improper or demeaning way.
In the same vein, I believe that God sings.
One more thought: God does the things I mentioned – thinking, speaking, deciding, acting, feeling, and yes, even singing – in a way that totally befits His character.
That is, God does all these things perfectly.
This what I believe, habibi, but I welcome more of your input!
far above is the lord of heavens of what we ascribe to him.
How is the voice of my lord that befits his majesty. i want to hear from him. the sense of order which trembles the whole me.
my place is with my lord i want him. i feel like lost when i think if by chance by his mercy i goto heaven. i dont want to lose myself in heavens. heaven is a tale for me .. i want the lord i fear of losing him.
and it is my wish he give me wisdom and knowledge so that i might invent some verses for him. i want to sing for him , i want to be raised humiliated.
ALLAH in Quran speaks to us , there is nothing like him and he is all listening and seeing. (surah e shura)
Even Allah is above his throne that befits his majesty. but in my thought he is sitting on the throne like a king a style that befits his majesty. though Allah is above any attribute of humans like sitting sleeping.
and then in my thoughts he open his eyes which cannot be explained i want to fell in that drunk eyes .. i am not a mad .. this is not a worldly love .. i know Love with ALLAH in incomprehensible ..
O LORD I DEMAND YOUR LOVE. O LORD BE LIKE I THINK OF YOU , O LORD O LORD
