Can we be so close to God – so intimate with Him – that we can say we are “bonded together”?
Please don’t misunderstand. I am not saying we can become “deity” or part of God ourselves. Not at all. Of course not!
But I wonder, how close to God can we be in our relationship to Him?
This song (recorded way back in 1987) still touches my heart so deeply. I hope that you – whether Muslim or Christian – will listen to it, follow along with the lyrics below, and let me know what you think by leaving a reply at the end of this post.

Twila Paris – Bonded Together
Words & music by Twila Paris
Background vocals: Jonathan David Brown and Twila Paris
Like a tightly woven garment, like a metal alloy
We are put together in the strongest way
With a common bond to join us that they cannot destroy
We are held together in the longest way
And we could not be pulled apart
Without it tearing out a heart
Bonded together
You are my Father forever
You will never leave me
We are bonded together
There is never space between us for a separation
We are put together in the tightest way
And a holy fusion causes this amalgamation
We are held together in the brightest way
And we could not be pulled apart
Without it tearing out a heart
Bonded together
I am Your servant forever
I will never leave You
We are bonded together
You cling to me
I cling to You
You cling to me
I am clinging too
Bonded together
You are my Father forever
You will never leave me
We are bonded together
I am Your servant forever
I will never leave You
We are bonded together
Bonded together
Bonded together
Bonded together
Postscript
This is my prayer today:
“Father in Heaven, there is no way I can thank You enough for loving me. Searching for me. Finding me. Making me Yours. I am so glad I belong to You. Please keep me clinging to You. I know You will cling to me. Keep me from leaving You. I know You will never, never leave me. We are “bonded together.”
So well expressed. Our bond in Christ is inexpressible as is our bond with other believers irregardless of nationality race social economic standing! That instant bond with a brother or sister on the other side of the world. It amazes me when I see this bond between Americans and Russians Ukrainians who don’t even speak the same language but yet have that bond:)
Art, great to hear from you. Yes, I am always amazed – no matter what country I am in – when I am with followers of Jesus, there is an immediate bond. It goes deeper than language or culture. It goes to the heart – where Jesus lives in the hearts of his followers.
It never ceases to thrill me that Christ wants to live in the hearts of people – humans, sinners, imperfect people – but he does. We just have to ask:
Colossians 1:27, NIV – “Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Ephesians 3:17, NLT – “Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.”
Revelation 3:20 – The prophet Isa – Jesus – stands at the door of our hearts and says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in. . .”
If we invite Jesus into our hearts and become his followers, we become bonded to God in Heaven for eternity! And. . .bonded to all others who have done the same.
“Neither my heavens nor my earth can hold me, but the heart of my servant, the believer, can contain me.”
——Hadith Qudsi, Prophet Muhammed (pbuh).
That is a fantastic quote from a hadith! I love it. Wow. Just fantastic. Thank you.
I expressed some thoughts to a friend about Jesus wanting to live in the hearts of people. Here they are:
