There is both good news – and tragic news – coming out of Iran these days.
The bad news is that the regime in Iran is brutally killing those who protest against their rules of morality.
On 16 September 2022, a 22-year-old Iranian woman named Mahsa Amini (Persian: مهسا امینی), died in a hospital in Tehran, Iran, under suspicious circumstances.
The religious morality police of Iran arrested Amini for not wearing the hijab in accordance with government standards. Eyewitnesses, including women who were detained with Amini, reportedly said she was severely beaten, and that she died as a result of police brutality, which was denied by Iranian authorities.
Protests spread quickly across Iran.
According to Iran Human Rights, as of 8 October 2022, at least 185 people have been killed as a result of the government’s intervention in the protests, involving tear gas and live rounds.
The good news is that, Iranian women are courageously standing up for their rights.
Their protests are spreading all over the world. Mahsa Amini’s tragic death is sparking something new and deep.
And in spite of all the religious persecution of Christians, Iran has perhaps the fast growing church in the world! These followers of Jesus from a Muslim background love him so much that they are willing to pay any price to follow him – even imprisonment or death.
In this interview with Rev. Dr. Mehrdad Fatehi, we hear of a God who sees injustice.
A God who cares about suffering.
Dr. Fatehi is the Founder and Executive Director of Pars Theological Centre. He has a BSc in Electronics, a BA in Theology, a post-graduate Diploma in Linguistics & Bible Translation, an MA in Hermeneutics, and a PhD in New Testament from London School of Theology, where he is currently a Research Fellow.
Dear Muslim friends, God cares about you! He sees your pain and suffering, and the suffering in Iran right now.
Cry out to Jesus and ask him to show you who he is. He promises to answer that cry of your heart!
You don’t have to be a slave to fear. You can be a child of God through Isa al Masih – Jesus – through what he did for you in sacrificing his life for you!
If you are a Muslim woman, please read the Injil and notice how Jesus treated women in a Jewish culture where men thanked God that they were not created as women!
Jesus refused to treat women as inferior. He treated them with respect and compassion:
– He healed them (Luke 8:40-48; Luke 13:10-16)
– He rescued a woman caught in adultery (John 8:3-11) without excusing her guilt
– He received their lavish displays of love (Luke 7:36-50)
– Jesus called a formerly immoral woman to be his first missionary (John 4:4-42)
– He welcomed them as followers (Luke 8:1-3)
– He appeared to women before men after his resurrection from the dead (Mark 16:9-11; John 20:11-18; Matthew 28:1-10, Luke 24:1-12; Luke 24:22-24)
Dear Muslim friends, God is moving in Iran. He wants to move in your heart.
Call on Jesus!
Ask him to show you who he is, and he will answer that prayer!
